Payments

As a Senior Product Designer for FanDuel Canada, I led the redesign and product development of the Bonus Bets feature for the Canadian market. I collaborated closely with project managers and engineers to ensure the successful delivery of this feature. Below, you will find the detailed flows of the feature and their breakdown within the application.

Overview

In 2021, I worked on redesigning the payments flow for the Canadian market. After launching in Toronto, we identified low completion rates in the payment process as a top priority for improvement. Our goal was to increase these rates, leading to more successful transactions and revenue for the business.

Interac Flow

We started by analyzing where users were dropping off and why. Key factors included the trustworthiness of the payment flow, page load times, clarity of payment options, and whether users had to re-enter their card information. Given Interac’s 60% market share in Canada, we also prioritized its integration.

Using insights from the US team, we split the payment flow into two experiences: deposits (adding funds) and withdrawals. This approach, tailored to the unique credit vs. debit dynamics in Canada, allowing users to select their preferred methods easily.

After several rounds of iterations, A/B testing, and collaboration with engineers, we launched the redesigned flows. The results were immediate: completion rates increased from 69% in March to 76% in May, and credit/debit transactions rose by 1.4%. Additionally, adding a postal code field reduced chargebacks from $700k in June to $87k, significantly cutting down on fraudulent transactions.

Overall, the redesign drove meaningful improvements in both business outcomes and the customer journey.
